Welcome to My Street Photography Gallery
Welcome to my street photography gallery. I am a Belgian street photographer who finds inspiration in everyday life, especially through the play of color on the streets. Most of the photographs you see here are in color, because color carries a special energy: it can make the ordinary appear striking, humorous, or even poetic. This gallery is not just a collection of images; it is my personal journey through cities, moments, and moods that unfold around us every day.
Antwerp Street Photography as a Starting Point
I began with Antwerp street photography, wandering the city with a camera and curiosity. Antwerp is full of visual surprises: a bright yellow raincoat crossing a grey square, neon signs glowing against old stone, or a puddle reflecting blue sky after rain. Color adds humor, irony, and rhythm to these scenes. Through this street photography gallery, I invite you to see Antwerp, and other places, the way I experience them.
The Role of Color in My Work
While some photographers lean heavily on black and white street photography, my approach is mostly color-based. I believe color speaks directly to emotion. A sudden flash of red in a crowded street, a green door standing out against a neutral wall, or the golden glow of sunset across tired faces — color transforms the ordinary into something memorable. For me, color is not decoration, it is storytelling.
Black and White as a Contrast
There are moments, however, when black and white street photography feels right. Strong light, sharp shadows, or pure geometry sometimes demand the simplicity of monochrome. In black and white, distractions disappear and only form remains. But while I respect this language, it is not my dominant one. For me, color is home, and most of this gallery reflects that.

Candid Street Photography at the Core
At the heart of my practice lies candid street photography. Nothing here is staged, nothing is posed. I simply wait for life to arrange itself into something unexpected. A fleeting glance, two strangers unknowingly mirroring each other, or a billboard commenting on the passerby below — these are the moments I chase. Candid images reveal the poetry of daily life, often overlooked but full of meaning once frozen in a frame.
Humor as a Quiet Companion
As a Belgian street photographer, humor is my quiet companion. Humor in street photography is not about mocking; it is about joy, irony, and surprise. A tourist struggling with a map under a giant “You Are Here” sign, or a serious businessman carrying a bag with a cartoon print — these little contradictions make the streets human. Humor gives candid images warmth and accessibility.
Beyond Antwerp: Other Cities and Rhythms
While Antwerp street photography gave me my foundation, I also explore Brussels, Ghent, and other European cities. Each location has its own palette and rhythm. Brussels feels layered and chaotic, Ghent playful and intimate, while elsewhere I find fresh challenges. Wherever I walk, I carry the same curiosity. This street photography gallery grows with every step, reflecting familiar places as well as new discoveries.
The Extraordinary in the Ordinary
Photography, for me, is not about the extraordinary event, but about finding the extraordinary in the ordinary. A child balancing on a curb, commuters waiting in silence, or sunlight falling across a cracked wall — these are not dramatic stories, yet they hold truth and beauty. Color makes them sing, while candid timing makes them real.
An Invitation to Explore
This gallery is an open invitation. I want you to wander through it as you would through a city: without hurry, open to surprise, ready to notice. These photographs do not offer answers; they offer possibilities. Each viewer will see something different, and that is the gift of photography.
Closing Words
Thank you for visiting my street photography gallery. Whether you came here through curiosity, passion, or chance, I hope these images share a glimpse of how I see the world. I invite you to pause, smile, and perhaps carry a little of this way of looking into your own walks. The streets are full of color, humor, and stories — and this gallery is my way of sharing them with you.
Do you want me to send a note?
🎁 This gallery is part of a surprise I’m preparing for my father Peter Kool.
He has no idea this website exists – I’ll reveal it to him on New Year’s Day.
💬 Do you enjoy his photography? Feel free to leave a comment. It will make this gift even more special.

Things I Found in the street
Some Early Black & Whites
“If your photos aren’t good enough, then you aren’t close enough.”
“Photography is what emotions look like.”
“There is a creative fraction of a second when you are taking a picture. … You must know with intuition when to click the camera.”
“Slow down, take time, allow yourself to be wildly diverted from your plan.
